Southern Miss dining deploys its own food truck

Andrew Hudson   ||   Sep 07, 2018  ||

Beginning this semester, The University of Southern Mississippi will be serving students food from a new on-campus venue -- the GrubSlinger food truck.

According to a university release, the new university-run food truck will offer students a wide variety of food items and will rotate both menus and locations depending on the day.

The idea of a food truck started last spring when representatives of Eagle Dining and food-service provider Aramark began searching for for ways to better address underserved areas of the Southern Miss campus, particularly those without a dining location in close walking proximity.

“After conducting surveys and focus groups on campus we felt that a food truck would be the perfect concept to reach students throughout campus," says John Meyer, Resident District Manager of Eagle Dining/Aramark. "We are excited about all the new offerings this will bring to campus."

The truck will serve students breakfast sandwiches, burritos and specialty toasts as well as rotating menus for lunch. The truck will change lunches daily between hot sandwiches, paninis, tacos, hotdogs, burgers and fries.

Students, meanwhile can stay updated on the food truck's status by following Eagle Dining on Twitter (@EagleDiningUSM) for daily updates on truck locations and menu items. The food truck will accept cash, credit card and dining dollars on the campus card for students with meal plans.
